Put On Your Dancing Shoes.....

Wonder where I've been????? Jump on over to my Connect With Your Life blog. A blog I started with some of the tips & techniques I share in my workshops and classes.

This journey of Life is not always an easy one....but one of the discoveries I have made: if I make the time to connect with my Life, it eases the hard times and encourages an instinctual response to see the glass as half full, the good in others and a peacefulness in my heart....my automatic response is to want to share it, so in an idealistic, movie ending kind of way, together, we can enhance our part of the world....and be able to dance & sing in the rain!

Yes! Roots & Wings.........

Here you are looking at wings!
Throughout my time as a mom I have looked to create the gentle balance I felt my boys needed. This included foundation concepts that I hoped would carry them through life. They saw times of compassion and empathy as a way to accept and not judge others. We had fun with Random Acts Of Kindness, which included paying for the person behind us at toll booths. At the not so joyful moments, there were arguments and disagreements, translating to me as opportunities for Life Lessons...which I must add was met with resistance because "can't we just be mad?" was frequently the response I received. I get it now....ironically that was MY time to learn.

It was important in my mind to "pave the way" so things would run smoothly on a day to day basis. A therapist once said to me "smooth now will mean bumpy later, they need to figure things out." Thank you Dr. R.

There really wasn't a time table in my mind when these roots would be established enough for their wings to fly. Oh I certainly saw it along the way. Drivers licenses, girlfriends and part time jobs all showed me they were getting older. Milestones and memories filled my Mama Bank.

Regardless of what the future would hold, I wanted them to feel the power and love of our family of four! I envisioned whether near or far (ok only pictured near) we would remain a family of love and support. Believing "as parents the best gift we can give our children are roots and wings" became my husband and my mantra when they were very young.

And here we are....like someone flipped a switch, I am living that future that once felt oh so far away. This past weekend my oldest son moved 2974.5 miles for a great job opportunity in LA. (yes, I could have said 3000 miles, but I'm still adjusting)

There are a range of emotions for me for sure, but my biggest is EXCITEMENT for him!!!

This is what we do as parents. We get them ready for moments just like this. So that they can say yes!  And for me, yes there are the occasional tears and reassuring whispers (I'm silently repeating to myself, 10 years or less...10 years or less...)  But when I see his smile and the opportunities being offered to him, I smile from ear to ear too, because as a mom that's what I always wanted to do ~ Encourage a life of discovery in a world of possibilities!

So here you are my Dear Zachery, it's your time to truly soar....may you always feel the love, strength and support of our family of four!

Reflection To Move Forward....................

Thank you for stopping by More Than Mom Thoughts! I started this blog over three years ago. I specifically remember the feeling of  "jumping in without my floaties"! The feelings of uncertainty (not knowing what direction I was taking this blog in) vulnerability, curiosity and sheer delight when folks started reading my thoughts and coming back for more. Oh and how can I forget the surprise slice of Red Velvet cake from my Dear Husband to celebrate that first post!

With each passing post and feedback from my Dear Readers a blog was born!

This past year I began giving a voice to More Than Mom Thoughts by conducting presentations, sharing my journey, along with stories and my belief of the importance of being connected with our lives. For me the practice of  positive & mindful living, sprinkled with a bit of levity, can make all the difference in our days. I enjoy meeting people at my talks, sharing AHA! moments and touching lives.  My Connect With Your Life talks took shape, workshops were created and the only thing left to do was.......

Launch a new blog

If just discovering More Than Mom Thoughts, I invite you to read as many posts as you like (there are over 230 yikes!) in the Blog Archive section to the lower right portion of this page. Then jump on over to Connect With Your Life at the link above or below, where the discoveries, motivation and mindful living inspiration will continue.

To my Dear Readers who have been with me since the maiden voyage on October 18th, 2011, a great big THANK YOU, come on over and continue to Connect With Your Life!

Cheers!

New Thoughts..........

Greetings Dear Readers! Playing with new thoughts, I am taking a 4 week "or so", hiatus from my blog. (like how I build in a buffer there to ease my stress?...kind of like "ish", it allows for flexibility and keeps me on this side of cranky)

Knowing when you need to take a breath, is always something I recommend!!

It will be a time of Questioning! Exploring! And listening to a whisper! I'm thinking it's all part of New Year = New Thoughts!

As always, I encourage you to hear the whisper, discover what you need and explore your Life!

Cheers!

How Do You Like Your Cookies.......

Thoughts to keep in mind as you think about goals in the new year!

Be realistic! There are already too many super heroes

Make expectations fun. Bubbles everyday?

Whatever you pick to do, once a week is a good place to start. Less pressure!

Yes you will stumble BUT that doesn't mean your goal is not possible. Just means when you do accomplish it you will know that you worked that much harder. High five to you!

Choose something that will enhance your Life. Pretty sure learning Japanese would be over zealous.....but if it interests you, give it a try!

Be kind to yourself when you do slip up. Remember.....slip up.....get up! Did you hear the one about the blogger who poured dish washing liquid on the two remaining chocolate chip cookies before tossing them in the trash??? No me either!

Believing in you Dear Readers!

Very Happy 2015 wishes around the world!

Raise A Glass.......

~ Viking Toast 2014 ~
I'm feeling it...the percolating...the rumbling ...the feelings of determination and promise of hope in the New Year! Can you feel it? Many folks are thinking resolutions... I am not!

Here's my theory of resolutions: They overwhelm, discourage and fade! Looking to leave that all behind, I joined in on a different approach last year. On New Year's Eve, among friends and much laughter, we made a Viking Toast.....an oath of sorts. For me, I toasted to "broadening my world and being part of something bigger in 2014". I felt it......committed to it!

The goal for me was clear "to join in and participate more in My Life".  Anything more than I had been would be a plus. It felt broad and do-able. Lessen the expectation, create bigger rewards!

What I really want to share with you Dear Readers, is this.... whatever you are looking to do, take on, change, add to your Life....can happen!!!! That's the biggest thing you need to know. Break it down, start small. Do things that lead you towards it and eliminate what takes you further away from your vision.

You may be encouraged to know that an awesome thing starts to happen! There is this energy and momentum that begins to build, which provides motivation to keep doing a little bit more. Regardless of how far it takes you, it will be more than if you hadn't done anything at all.

It is my true belief that we each are given this gift to take charge of our path and the only way it will ever take place is with small steps.

I raise a glass to you Dear Readers, as we welcome 2015 with open arms and hopefully a great pair of shoes to take that first step.

Cheers!

Gentle Prayer.....

Two years ago hearts and lives were shattered as the result of the unthinkable at the Sandy Hook Elementary School. I still think of it often and say a little prayer for those left to carry on. Tonight I share with you something I originally wrote and posted when the tragedy occurred.

Our hearts are heavy our eyes are blurred
The unthinkable has happened, such
tragic news we have heard

Our questions are many, the answers are few
 longing to ease their pain
knowing there's little we can do

Bring comfort and Peace to these families Dear Lord
as they face the days ahead
Grant them serenity & strength to carry on
knowing the beautiful lives their loved ones have lead

The heavens are now filled with precious Christmas Angels above
showering down on their broken families, an abundance of Love.

Together let's pray, as we look to the sky
knowing at Peace these tender hearts lie ~

The Gift Of Giving................

Greetings Dear Readers! Around the holidays thoughts of gifts and giving are in the air. Today I would like to share with you organizations that could use some extra help this holiday season.

  • One project that is near and dear to my heart is Christmas Is For Kids, located in Attleboro, MA. You can read about their recent request for donations here.
  • Another organization that I admire is Amos House in Providence, RI. They provide meals as well as numerous other services to the homeless all year round, and on Christmas the numbers increase. Donations are eagerly requested so they may accommodate the great need they are faced with. To learn more about making a donation and how your money will be spent click here. I have actually made donations "in honor of" for those difficult to buy for relatives. It feels like a win win way to give to me.
  • Make a difference in the classroom!  Many teachers are overworked and short on supplies...damn those budget cuts! Donations of supplies or gift cards to Amazon or Target would be a wonderful surprise.
  • Take a look in your own community, reach out to the Human Services Department, shelters or perhaps youth services programs.

So many possibilities to touch lives Dear Readers, some folks you may know and some you may not.....either way hearts will be touched...including your own.

Cheers!

Heartfelt Holidays............

There is a calmness that comes with not rushing...which translates to me
"don't put off what you can do today". As we find ourselves at the beginning of December, it's the perfect time to revisit our notebook of how we want our Holiday to look. What's important to you Dear Readers?

For me, my Holiday list includes, time with family and friends, Acts of Kindness, making snowflakes, mulled cider, peppermint lotion, neighborhood gatherings...

I tend to prefer doing things sooner than later, so I am not rushed... it leaves time for the unexpected that may delay me or create a sudden opportunity.

In order to make these things happen and enjoy them to the fullest potential of memory making moments they hold, I have to make an effort. In saying that let me explain..the effort comes when I need to organize thoughts and plans to help things run smoothly in my mind and with the follow through. I also need to realize my sons are no longer little and I no longer make all the schedules and decisions. (really working on that one... I know, I know "roots and wings...roots and wings") I need to keep things in perspective as to what really matters and it may be time, to let one or two traditions go. Pang, Ouch!

Visit your list Dear Readers, think about the special touches you can add to your Holiday prep, let go the parts that are unrealistic expectations, look for opportunities that can make a difference for you and others.

Be in the moment of what you are doing and make amazing Heartfelt Holiday memories of your own.

Giving Thanks................

Sending Thanksgiving wishes to you Dear Readers. May your day be filled with celebration that includes family, fun and gratitude!

As we pull together and think about turkey day and all we have to do, whether you are hosting or attending, we can look to include a few special touches that speak to the hearts of those sharing in the holiday with us.

Here are a few ideas that come to mind:

If you are hosting: Yes there is lots to do, but consider forgoing some things (I often feel if I provide a clean toilet and hand towel, I'm good on the cleaning front) which allows for heartfelt preparations.
  • Think about cutting up strips of paper in fall colors for your guests to write down what they are thankful for. You can then collect them in a jar and add to it and enjoy them each year. (Be sure to date them) Imagine the fun rereading them as the years go by.
  • Start a journal book that guests can write thoughts of gratitude, what is going on in their lives, memories of Thanksgiving traditions, adding to it each year capturing memories in the making.
  • Shoot mini clips on your phone, camera etc of family members in attendance and a short story they would like to share.

If you'll be the guest: Special touches can be added when celebrating away from home too.
  • A Special handwritten note of thanks to the hostess for all they did to prepare, including gratitude for your relationship and what it means to you.
  • Thoughtful hostess gift that says "take a little time tomorrow to relax". A holiday scented candle or an instrumental relaxing CD or big mug with a package of hot chocolate and marshmallows or how about moisturizing mitts with lotion?

However you choose to express your gratitude Dear Readers, is up to you. As we know, Life is fragile and can change in an instant. It's up to us to use our powers for good to touch lives and make a difference....... and in doing so, we are making memories for ourselves and others......to last a Lifetime.

Creating Heartfelt Holidays.......

~ Fair Trade Shopping ~
For Christmas this year I want family time decorating the trees, the smell of cloves, sing~a~longs, holiday hang out with family & friends, bestowing Random Acts of Kindness all around, lots of white twinkle lights, gift giving that doesn't make me clench my teeth (thank goodness the recipient I am referring to does not read my blog) and I want to be able to put my head on my pillow each night until January 1st, 2015, feeling happy and content with how my Heartfelt Holiday season turned out.

My notebook is started, my vision is written and I'm ready to kick things off. I will write out cards early this year, enjoying the individual notes I will have time to include. I will spend time with family & friends and it will be about making memories and not about cleaning and cooking before hand.

I will enjoy looking for that special gift because I will not be pressed for time.

In fact this Saturday I am attending a friend's Fair Trade Sale. I will purchase gifts
knowing they will benefit the Girl Effect Group. Proceeds last year were donated to organizations supporting girls and women in the area of education in Kenya, Guatemala and Sophia House here in Providence.

Join in the fun Dear Readers, as we start early, not over extend and find Peace!

I am taking on this holiday season with a Dream It....Do It! way of thinking. By starting now, defining how I want things to go......lots of laughter, tinsel, belly laughs, feel good moments and very little stress, I'm confident I can Do It!

Special Note: Please message me if you would like to stop by and shop at the Fair Trade Sale too!

Time For Heartfelt Holidays......

Greetings Dear Readers! Today I continue to share with you my thoughts and ideas for creating Heartfelt Holidays.

We started with taking time to envision the Holiday Season we want to create. Be certain to put in place the steps to get there. Decide what is a priority and what can you let go. On the sentimental side I offer......

November is about Thanksgiving! We can express our gratitude in a variety of ways, knowing that it touches the lives of others and serves as a reminder to ourselves of how Blessed we are. Give these few a try.

Note of Thanks to a family member! What a pleasant surprise for them to find a note on their pillow, in their car or randomly text to them. Perhaps saying that you are "grateful for the smiles and energy they bring to the family" or "Thanks for bringing out the recycle bins and picking up the Bunny poop. It helps a lot".

Write a Thank You note to a former teacher, employer or friend, that has touched your Life at some point and made a difference for you. Perhaps a note to a teacher who has your child as a student now.  Acknowledge and recognize what specifically they are doing to enhance your child's education.

STICKY NOTES! Leave them in the mail box for the mailman,  and  on your outgoing trash bins  ~ although now that they are picked up remotely by a truck here, with the driver inside, it could be a bit trickier. Instead make a large sign that simply says "THANK YOU!" they'll get the message. If space allows you could say "Thanks for helping keep me clean".

Kudos to you! I have had great fun giving out individual Kudos snack bars with a note attached that says "Kudos to you for all that you do". I have given them to teachers, crossing guards, doctor's office staff. You name it, if I'm grateful of the actions of someone who helps me, I let them know.

The possibilities and joy it brings is priceless! And in keeping with recognizing what we are grateful for I must say:

Thank you Dear Readers for coming back for more! More Than Mom Thoughts was a venture I took three years ago this past October. I took the leap and jumped in without my floaties to give this whole "blogging world" a try. I am glad I did, and because of all of you I have realized the water is real nice.  To you I share a heartfelt Thank You for all the support  and encouragement and most of all for being on this journey with me. I am learning so much!!!

Gratefully Yours,
Maria

Garland and Wreaths and Bows...Oh My............

Let me just start by saying Holy Mother Of Moly! My computer has been giving me grief! I've had the blog post below in stand by since the weekend. Not able to post it due to computer glitches. Pardon the white background another of the glitches. I've decided to hold off figuring that out, because it could delay the submitting process. In fact it's growing on me a little. So here goes!
                                                                                           *******************
It happened last Thursday, October 30th! While out on errands I was hit once again with the realization that retail stores rush the Holidays in hopes of making more and more money. There to my left, while stopped at a red light I saw the green garland, large wreath and many red bows!

Good~Ness! Cardi's Furniture what are you thinking??? I continued on my way and had a revelation that turned the perception of the too early decorations around for me.

Here's where my thoughts went......Seeing the Christmas decorations reminded me yes in fact the Holidays are approaching....BUT the real eye opener was, it's still early enough to strategize a plan that includes special moments, Holmemade gesture gifts, heartfelt handwritten letters, and special plans of festive visiting with family and friends.

Truth is.....Life gets hectic and the days pass quickly. Suddenly the Holidays are upon us and we feel like we are running out of time. We vow to start earlier next year......well guess what??? Next year is here and it's earlier! This year Dear Readers we will have time.

Over the next several posts I will share my thoughts for sentimental, genuine, holiday ideas, that will brighten the days of others, slow down the hamster wheel stress inducing days and eliminate that feeling of not being ready.

My first recommendation is: Start a notebook!

Give some thought as to what you want your Holiday experience to be overall.
Is it less retail/commercial and more genuine, sentimental, memory making moments with family and friends? Incorporating Acts Of Kindness to surprise others may be a great treat the whole family can join in on.

Would you like to get cards out earlier this year, or perhaps forgo them all together and call those special people in your Life that you don't get to see too often.

Make a list and check it twice, of all you want to make happen and then realistically look at it again and edit where you see fit. Don't set yourself up for overload, if part of your vision is to have relaxing, reduced stress Holidays, don't take on building gingerbread houses for the whole neighborhood! Really c'mon now.

Once you define what the Holidays really look like,  and now that you have time, you are on your way to making it happen!

Make your Holidays special and start by following your heart!

Add a little "ish" to your day...................

As time quickly passes and I realize I've missed my personal goal of 1 post per week, I dash to the computer and look to harness the many many thoughts jumping around in my mind, kind of like popcorn spilling out of an air popper. (hadn't thought of those in years, but my son recently purchased one and I remember the joy of years gone by)

Do I write about "letting your dreams take shape?" or "be kind to yourself and treat yourself as you treat others?" or "it's not too early to be thinking about Acts of Kindness as the heartfelt holidays approach?" or "compassion & empathy as a beacon can ease some of the stresses in our lives?"

Phew......you can see, to buckle down and open up the flood gates to write, is sometimes easier said than done.  Little hamster wheel in my mind lately I tell ya'. I love it!

So for today Dear Readers I am going to go with "Be Kind To Yourself"!  I frequently find folks are more understanding and forgiving towards others than they are to themselves. Present company very included. My snarky "self talk" creeps in more than I would ever share towards someone else.

How often do you hear yourself saying to someone "No worries, it's ok", when they kept you waiting, or they were not able to help you with something? We are forgiving and lenient towards others, but not ourselves as readily. So next time you are giving yourself a hard time over anything, forgot to switch the wash and it got a bit stinky in the dark, damp, washing machine, or didn't exercise today, or ate that delish brownie instead.....ease back and tell yourself a comforting "No worries, it's ok!"....because it really is! Remember, the accepting nature you show towards yourself has so many more benefits than the alternative. Ease your guidelines. I find "ish" works real well for that. That being said "I will try and post an entry to my blog once a week~ish.....and I will go switch the wash in the next 10 ish minutes!"

Be kind to yourself and watch the world brighten around you!

Reminder: I will be sharing my aha! moments, as well as my own tips and techniques for staying connected with my Life, at a public event at Weaver Library in East Providence.... YAY! This Connect With Your Life talk will take place this Monday evening October 27th at 6:30. Come and share a positive evening and feel the vibe!

As always, I welcome your emails at mhplus2@msn.com

Spread Your Wings................

"It's never too late to become what you might have been." George Eliot~

Putting it out there....Think about making tiny changes if you feel like you want to mix things up a bit and do a little exploring in your Life.

Personally I like being able to tweak things from time to time, adjust as I go and enjoy mini reinvents of me, as I see fit. It's one of  the cycles of my Life.

As interests, responsibilities and feelings change, I eagerly try to explore the possibilities that come along with the changes.

My message today Dear Readers is to consider even a little something you would like to incorporate into your Life. Keep in mind, sometimes taking on too much overwhelms and stunts the process to a halt. Think small to start! I have been known to say to friends "start a folder or notebook". Translated.......start collecting your thoughts, reference material regarding an interest or "how to" to achieve what you are going after.

Recently I was asked "how do I know where to begin?" Great question when thoughts are feeling floundering and finding a starting point seems daunting.

This is where I recommend "listen to whispers". Is there an underlying interest you pushed to the back burner when Life took another direction? Or perhaps you silently admire what you see others doing and wish you knew more about it.

Explore thoughts and options that create a little "hmm I wonder if ......" Capture them, write them down. I'm a paper girl, love journals, various notebooks and harness my thoughts and ideas there, along with breaking down the steps on how I will get there.  Take a step, listen to the whispers and watch your very own transformation start to unfold.

Sharing side note: When I contemplated what I wanted to write today, I opened the porch door to let the sunshine in to inspire me. I sat  and considered a few options. I went to my saved "quotes that inspire me" folder and found the one above.

The real magic happened right after that when a Monarch butterfly flew up to the glass door and fluttered around then went on it's way.
Here's why I was moved.....I felt the butterfly was truly a beautiful connection to the quote I selected, affirming it was the writing direction to go in. And the other truly heartfelt piece was....20 plus years ago my Memere passed away, my sadness was great and my tears were many. There was a frequently visiting Monarch butterfly that came around. It would linger in my perennial gardens and bring me joy. I felt then as I do each time since, that it is sweet Elizabeth coming to say hello and bring me comfort.

Listen for your whispers Dear Readers and feel the comfort and joy they bring.

Reminder: I will be sharing my aha! moments, as well as my own tips and techniques for staying connected with my Life, at a public event at Cumberland Library!! YAY! This Connect With Your Life talk will take place this Thursday evening October 16th at 6:30. Come and share an hour and feel the vibe!

Filling My Toolbox...................

While preparing handouts and thoughts for upcoming talks I am giving... here comes the plug wink, wink: at Cumberland Library on Thursday October 16th at 6:30  and Weaver Library in East Providence Monday, October 27th at 6:30 ............

I got to thinking a lot about my "toolbox" of  ideas I have created to ease stress, calm the static that creeps in and how it all prepares me to handle situations as they come my way. In my gathering and sorting I've decided to share one of the lists with you Dear Readers, in the hopes that the tips may offer even the slightest of calm and or enjoyment to your day!

Sample Of Ideas To Add To Your Day

What: Connect With Your Life
Why: Because you & everyone you come in contact with will benefit
When: Each and every day
Where: Wherever you feel like it
How:  Begin by acknowledging that you deserve to take time and reconnect. The results will benefit both you & the people in your Life!

* Before you lift your head off the pillow each morning, literally smile and commit to the thought that you will find or create special moments in the day.  Habit will set in and the doubts will turn to beliefs

* Dance! Find a song that makes you want to move and just do it. The silly awkward feeling will pass, endorphins kick in and you realize it’s fun! (Little teaser: I'll share my "got to" song at my talks)

* Smile:  while driving ~ while shopping ~ when feeling stressed

* S.O.S = Something Of Substance  ~ Make time to do a little something that brings you joy. Expression Book ~  Cup of tea ~ Call a friend ~ Paint  ~ Color ~ Play ~ teach yourself to play the piano…..whatever feels like a treat to you!

* Give a piece of your time to others. Volunteering to a cause that is passionate to you helps fill your soul and feel connected.

* See the good in people and assume the positive before the negative. They don’t know what you are going through, nor do you know what they are.

* Read books that motivate, inspire and encourage positive thoughts

* Have a “go to tribe”  Surround yourself with people who motivate, support and encourage you!

* Each night write down a handful of things you are grateful for from your day. You will begin to see that you notice so many more things that you just passed by previously. A giggle, a crocus, a song, someone smiling at you, a lighter heart, a tender moment….a memory in the making !

So start filling up your toolbox with ideas you gather along the way, and see how you can start to feel the benefits!

Each of my Connect With Your Life talks will be an informal gathering that will include tips, techniques, stories of my journey and much more....there's even bubbles...no joke!

Hope you can think about joining me on either October 16th or 27th. The links above for each library provide more of a description (once you scroll down to the appropriate date) Registration is requested but not required

Hope to see you there ~

Bermuda Anxiety Celebration...........

As we stood in line to get our boarding passes, I could feel my eyes starting to fill with tears. When we reached the ticket counter, I was at the point of trying to steady by my quivering lower lip. When asked by the very welcoming JetBlue attendant, how I was doing today, tears were rolling down my face.

Here's what you need to know: This trip to Bermuda was 25 years in the making for me, which translated means, for both my husband and I. My hurdles and obstacles with anxiety become his, because they limit and play a role in our lives.

Boarding the plane to Bermuda two weeks ago I was walking towards my future way of living and leaving behind the aspects of my Life that have held me/us back. Initially I thought the tears were all for fear of getting on the plane, but when I really stopped to feel the emotion, I realized it was truly a rush of many feelings ~ personal hard work, great appreciation that he has patiently stayed along for this wild ride for the last 25 years and loving the joy we have known, and that we were at this point to take an amazing trip ....oh and for sure, many of the tears were for fear of flying too.

Throughout the years of writing my blog, I have shared that one of my reasons for writing is to offer my aha! moments in the hopes that it validates, encourages, comforts and eases moments for others. The relaying of my experiences of living in the moment, gratitude and my struggles along the way, is to serve as a reminder, that you are not alone. We are all working on something.

There is a component for me that involved getting to the point of wanting to make changes in my Life. "Putting off" had gone on long enough. I was not going to let inner obstacles hold me back any longer. Soul searching and embarking on new paths started a few years ago for me, coupled by this year making a "viking oath" on New Year's Eve with friends that I WOULD make the changes in myself that I wanted to see.  (Thank you Mariann!)

I'm not saying it's a "new me" or that I have overcome the things that held me back..... I know better than to think fears and hard times disappear. (If they did we would never grow) What I know to be true is....at this time in my Life I am taking on the challenging & overwhelming obstacles I live with and making memories to last a lifetime.

So today Dear Readers I share this little reminder with big results, that when Life gets tricky and struggles are many, hard work and perseverance will lead to triumphs and tears....and keep you motivated to keep on going.

Sharing one more piece before I sign off. I am excited to say that I am putting a voice to my blog!! I will be presenting a Connect With Your Life talk at two locations in October. I will share tips and techniques that I incorporate into my day that help me, reduce stress, strive for inner peace, live in the moment and the advantages I find of seeing the glass half full. Hope you can join me on either, Thursday, October 16th at the Cumberland Library  or on Monday, October 27th at the Weaver Library in East Providence. Both begin at 6:30 pm.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post and as always feel free to email me if you like.

Cheers To 25 Years!!!!

Sharing a post that I published 2 years ago. The message still holds true as I celebrate my 25th wedding anniversary this week. There has just been another 2 years of working on it (our marriage that is) and reaping the benefits with a man who still rocks my world!  Here's a picture from our engagement. Such youngins' we were!!

With our family and friends around us, my husband of three and a half hours held me in his arms, in a way that made me feel so protected and safe. We danced to our very special song...all was right in my world!  I was confident and certain I knew it all...or so I thought at the time. Looking back there was so much I did not know on my wedding day.

As we approach our twenty third wedding anniversary next weekend, I reflect on what I have learned since that special day so long ago.

In the kitchen department, I learned pure lemon juice is not a marinade for chicken, and that keeping a full sugar bowl on the top ledge of the stove is a little tippsie and not a great idea. (especially when you are taking pizza out of the oven) Oh and I also learned that typically turkey is cooked breast side up....who knew?!

With the birth of our sons, I learned you have to super focus through the blur of happy tears to see their beautiful faces that first moment they are placed in your arms. I learned of a tenderness for these precious beings, that I never knew existed.

Over the years, I have learned that love can strengthen in a marriage as a result of the ups and downs that come along the way.....and being "in it" together. That a closeness develops over those times,  and truly bonds. I have learned that compromise, listening and respect are key ingredients in making that love grow. We thought we were so in love when we got married...and we were.....it was just a different kind of love. I also found out how amazing it feels to know that someone believes in me so strongly, and supports me in all of my endeavors. I am Blessed !

The list could go on and on, because every day I feel there is something new I could add.

I think back to that first dance, as we whispered the words of our song to each other and know in my heart that they still hold true today.....because Mark, you are my....One In A Million!
